1 BACnet Development with Open Source Tools Covering open source
BACnet Protocol Stack library, compilers, Wireshark, and testing tools.
Steve Karg, Senior Engineer with Wattstopper Steve Karg uses Extreme Programming and Personal Software Process key practices to develop high quality and maintainable software. He is an active BACnet standing standards project committee member, participating in several working groups, including Testing (BTL), Objects and Services, MS/TP, and Lighting Applications. Karg develops embedded system products for lighting controls and BACnet. He developed a lighting controller product line called Synergy while working at Lithonia Lighting. Synergy was networked using BACnet. Karg successfully brought Synergy through the BTL testing and listing process., and he developed the BACnet module, the Room Controllers (relay, 0-10V dimmer, forward phase dimmer, DALI) and the lighting control panel for the DLM (Digital Lighting Management) product line while working at Watt Stopper. Karg also wrote an open source BACnet protocol stack library in C that includes unit testing. He helps maintain the BACnet decoding in Wireshark, and he created a BACnet MS/TP development kit.
2 UNH-IOL Facility Tour Join us for a tour of the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). Tours will lead groups of 10 will be lead by representatives from UNH-IOL to showcase the facility and its ability to provide independent, broad-based interoperability and conformance testing for data, telecom and storage networking technologies. Led by UNH-IOL Representatives The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) tests networking and data communications products. Since 1988, the laboratory has fostered multi-vendor interoperability while preparing students for careers in the industry. The laboratory has grown steadily into one of the industry's premier independent proving grounds for new technologies.

1 What We Have Learned from Diagnosing Large, Multi-Vendor BACnet Networks Cimetrics provides software and professional services to a number of large organizations, some of which own large, BACnet-based building automation systems. Oftentimes, the company is called upon to diagnose problems in their BACnet networks and to recommend how problems could be fixed. This presentation will offer some observations from performing this diagnosis and will put forward some ideas about how BAS manufacturers could make it easier for their systems to be configured and maintained so as to reduce costly BACnet-related field problems and improve customer satisfaction. Jim Butler, CTO of Cimetrics Inc. Jim Butler is responsible for Cimetrics’ networked systems consulting and for all Cimetrics R&D activities. He served as the first BTL Manager (from 2000-2006), the first convener of BACnet International’s BTL-WG and as a voting member of the BACnet committee. Butler is currently the convener of the BACnet committee’s IT-WG.
