BACnet Seminar Presented at ASHRAE Hong Kong Chapter Meeting

Workshop Focuses on BACnet - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

 

Atlanta, GA – June 4, 2015 – ASHRAE Hong Kong Chapter held a technical seminar titled, "BACnet - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" on June 4, 2015 in the lecture theater of CYPP3 at the University of Hong Kong. The seminar is co-organized with the SOE Hong Kong Region.
 
The evening workshop had approximately 48 participants. Chapter Technology Transfer Committee Co-chair (2014-15) Cecil Man delivered a welcoming address to all participants and gave background on the speaker, Raymond Rae, an experienced engineering professional and active member of the BACnet community. He was the winner of the BACnet International's 2014 Doberman Pinscher Award.
 
Rae started the presentation by describing how new technologies arise and disturb the "open" system we enjoyed during the days where pneumatic control systems were most popular. Then, he remarked on the history of how open system is nurtured and made realized under the ASHRAE task Standard 135 Committee.
 
Rae also described in technical detail how BACnet is structured and presented other technologies that will enable BACnet to go further and encompassing new technologies such as wireless, internet-of-things to web-of-things. The presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session.
