Success Story Creation Program

In order to generate more Success Stories to promote the successful use of the BACnet protocol, BACnet International has formed the Success Story Creation Program.

We realize that drafting a Success Story takes a lot of time – pulling together the project information, contacting and interviewing the various participants, collecting images and finally writing and editing the story. We want to make this easier for you by having a professional writer take over much of the development work.

The Success Story Creation Program is part of the member benefits of BACnet International so is free of charge for our members. It is available by application.

The resulting Success Story will be available on the BACnet International website, highlighted in our monthly Cornerstones e-newsletter, reviewed for possible inclusion in our Journal publication as well as entered into the Project of the Year award. A final version will also be sent to you for use in your own marketing efforts adding to your collateral inventory.

In the Success Story Program, a project will be selected from applications received. At this point you will be notified that your application has been approved and you will then be contacted by the writer to set up an initial meeting. This initial meeting will be conducted via Zoom, when available, and recorded so that the writer can focus on the conversation instead of taking copious notes.

During this meeting you will discuss the project and will also need to provide evidence of customer approval along with the names and contact information of at least two other project participants. We ask that you alert these participants beforehand so they are aware that the writer will be contacting them.

We also ask that you gather any images that can be used for the story. We will need as a minimum three (3) high resolution photos (at least one exterior shot and one interior shot). It is up to you to verify that we have permission to use these in various ways to promote your project. The images are not needed ahead of the initial interview but will be needed shortly afterwards. (The writer will outline the timeline during the call.)

Once the interviews are conducted, the writer will draft the story and then it will be returned to you for review. Upon your acceptance, it will go through one final review with the BACnet International editorial team and then be posted on the website. We will notify you once it is live on the site, as well as any other promotional uses. A final version will be provided to you in Word format for use in your marketing efforts.

Projects selected for the program must meet the following criteria:

  • Project completion date must be within the past two calendar years (starting January 1, 2016 for applications submitted through December 31, 2018)
  • At least one BACnet International member company’s BACnet products must be used on the project.
  • You must have names and contact information for at least two (2) project participants outside of your member company who worked on the project or use the system (ex. consulting engineer, facility manager, building owner, etc)
  • You must have customer/end user approval for publication of the story PRIOR to BACnet International starting work on it. You can submit the application before gaining approval but MUST receive it once we notify you that the story has been selected and before any work is started. Your story will not be added to the queue until approval is received. (Please do not submit a project for which you are unsure whether or not you can gain approval.)
  • You must be able to provide at least three (3) high-resolution images for use with the story. All copyright and other permissions to use the images in BACnet International’s marketing efforts are your responsibility and must be verified before the story is finalized.

Upon submission, your application will be forwarded to the review committee and you will be notified once a decision has been made. At that point, if your application has been accepted, please ensure you receive customer approval for publication and gather the contact information for the other project participants as well as the project photos. The copywriter will contact the person noted on the application to set up the initial call.
