About BACnet Secure Connect

BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) is an addendum to the BACnet protocol recently released by the ASHRAE BACnet Committee. It is a secure, encrypted datalink layer that is specifically designed to meet the requirements, policies and constraints of minimally managed to professionally managed IP infrastructures. The need for using standardized and often already present IP network infrastructures for BACnet communication is increasing, and this security is a critical piece in the networking of building technologies (Building Internet of Things – BIoT).

BACnet Secure Connect Interoperability Acceleration Program

BACnet International designed the BACnet Secure Connect Interoperability Acceleration Program to provide building automation system (BAS) suppliers with knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate BACnet/SC in their products and solutions. Security is a hot button in the buildings industry and with the increased interest in BIoT, BAS manufacturers will be under pressure to get their people and products up-to-speed on this new technology.  With this program, suppliers will gain in-house technical knowledge as well as enhance the interoperability of their products with other BACnet/SC devices.

Technical Knowledge
The program will provide a fast track to developing in-house technical knowledge of BACnet/SC and how to deploy it through two resources:
  • Technical Forum focused on a reference implementation of BACnet/SC with weekly posts by the developer and a Q&A section with a group of experts.
  • Webinars covering BACnet/SC device implementation architecture choices and implications, and BACnet/SC security certificate generation, signing and deployment.
Device Development

To aid in implementing BACnet/SC into their products, the program will provide participants with:

  • Access to a reference implementation for in-house interoperability testing
  • Access to multi-vendor BACnet/SC testing to assure device interoperability
  • Early license to use reference implementation or create derivatives for use in products

For more information on the program, access the overview here.

Who should join?

The program is designed for BACnet product suppliers, but it is also open to educational institutions with expertise in BACnet protocol and device implementation.

Cost of the program

There is a program cost for industry participants, with BACnet International corporate members receiving a discounted rate. There is no program cost for educational institutions.

  • BACnet International corporate members - $5,000.00 USD
  • Non BACnet International corporate members - US $11,000.00 USD
  • Educational Institutions (Universities with BACnet development expertise) - $0.00 USD
